Abstract

This paper compares the historical similarities of Brazil and Argentina and goes on to attempt to argue that a cornerstone of the differences, specifically economically, is the racial and demographic breakdown of the countries during the year following the fall of their most recent dictatorship. Largely, this paper discusses the racial backgrounds that lead to Argentina self-identifying closer to the United States and Western countries, while Brazil feels confident in aligning economically with countries in the global south that are not considered Western by racial or cultural identities.
