Abstract
In their efforts to analyze the Marlatt Collection’s assortment of printed documents and manuscripts, the class focused on the accessibility of information in early American colonies. The chosen documents provide unique insight into how information was dispersed during the rise of the United States, and contain records of several methods of communication and the perspectives they represent. The class endeavored to truthfully portray early America, but acknowledge that they could only provide a limited perspective, and despite their efforts to portray many aspects of colonial life, there are many other topics that were not covered. As a whole, A Picture of Early America Through the Marlatt Collection aims to provide greater accessibility to the information found within documents from Pepperdine’s exclusive collection.
