Abstract

Despite progress, there are still plenty of barriers on the road to gender equality in America that have yet to be addressed, one of these being the gendered experience of women running for president. In my research, I consider the experience of women running for president of the United States through a qualitative analysis of Hillary Clinton's 2008 and 2016 primary campaigns. I study her voter appeal, campaign strategy, and media framing to further understand the gender specific barriers women face on the campaign trail.
