Abstract
This study examined the effect of various types of social networks on socialization among newcomers in organizations. First, it determined how horizontal networks impact relationship morale among newcomers. The study discovered a positive relationship between horizontal networks and newcomers’ relationship morale. When newcomers successfully build positive social connections with existing employees, they actively contribute to achieving organizational goals. These horizontal networks also foster the self-efficacy necessary for newcomers to effectively carry out their duties. Since newcomers often lack knowledge of the organizational culture, these networks provide valuable insights, enabling quick and effective assimilation into the organization. The study also examined how vertical networks influence performance morale among newcomers. The organization’s vertical network was positively associated with newcomers’ performance morale. To perform their duties effectively, newcomers must understand the organizational hierarchy. Lack of access to the vertical network can result in insufficient resources for performing roles, leading to subpar performance. Lastly, the study investigated the association between outside-organization network density and relationship morale among newcomers. The study also revealed that outside-organization network density positively impacts newcomers’ relationship morale. Newcomers may have connections to social networks outside their organization, which can offer technical and psychological support when needed. These external networks play a complementary role alongside horizontal and vertical networks, especially during the initial stages of adapting to a new work environment. In summary, both horizontal and vertical networks, along with external connections, contribute significantly to newcomers’ well-being and effectiveness within an organization.
