See Josephus. Nephew of Judus Maccabaeus. Hasmonaean ruler struggled with Antiochus VII. Amid dissapating Seleucid Empire, he conquered surrounding areas, destroyed the Samaritan temple on Mt. Gerizim, forced conversions to Judaism.
