Abstract

As part of Dr. Jonathan Koch’s Digital Humanities Class, Pepperdine English majors collaborated on this semester-long project: a digital archive of John West Butler’s 18th-century schoolbook (commonly referred to as the "lesson book" throughout the archive). The class was divided into three teams, each engaging with the text in a unique manner in order to produce a comprehensive look into the life of Butler and how his book reflects the early educational values of the time.
