Abstract
First wave of French data used in chapter 5 of Fetzer and Soper, Muslims and the State in Britain, France, and Germany (Cambridge University Press, 2005). Demographic variables plus religious identification of respondent and her/his views on secularism (laïcité) and the wearing of the Muslim hijab ("foulard"/"headscarf") in state schools. Conducted by Roper ASW's affiliate in France. Selection by quotas on major demographics and random-digit dialing. Telephone survey. Fieldwork dates 21-22 July of 2001.
