Nicholas Carr is an American author and public intellectual who is especially focused upon technology and its impact upon human populations. He has authored numerous books, including The Shallows (2010), The Glass Cage (2014), and most recently Superbloom (2025). In this plenary session, he will review the historical landscape of advancing communication technologies and the associated societal impact. Modern communication is changing at a pace that challenges human adaptation, and is contributing to rising conflict and diminished human connection. The “superbloom” of this digital age is challenging human flourishing, and requires our collective action.
Curtis Chang bridges the worlds of theology, institutions, and public life. As the Founder and Executive Director of Good Faith and host of The Good Faith Podcast, he helps friends who follow Jesus to make sense of a confusing and divided world. This session will conclude with a conversation between Carr and Chang, recorded for The Good Faith Podcast.
