McGarvey, and he was office editor of the Gospel Advocate with David Lipscomb. James A. Harding described J. W. Shepherd’s Handbook on Baptism, first published in 1894, as “by far the fullest, the best arranged, and most valuable collection of learned testimonies on the action, subjects, and design of baptism ever published in a single volume.”
